Building - Vision

Dear Friend,

Let’s talk about vision for a few minutes! We all have some visionary qualities that motivate us to move forward. Business people, government officials, elected public servants, teachers, entrepreneurs, ministers and others need vision from God! The lead visionary is usually not the only visionary within a ministry or business. There are often those who assist the lead visionary in breaking down the details to make things happen. Visionaries must be able to motivate themselves and others on the merits of the heavenly vision!

"Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance." Acts 26:19-20

Visionaries are persuasive in relating the details of what God is saying to them. With this influence, we can motivate others to move in the direction of fulfillment. Resources come together as the laborers begin flowing in the direction that the vision is leading. Flexibility is a key ingredient in this coming together. Each vision has its own expression. The proper expression from the Lord depends on our ability to be correctible. If we are set on having the vision fulfilled without the Lord’s interaction in shaping it, we will certainly miss the mark.

Timing is very vital in building. We don’t want to arrive ahead of schedule. Without proper spiritual timing we can arrive at the right place at the wrong time. When this happens, we can be without the people we are sent to or those who are sent to us. Provision will often be lacking as well. We can build ahead of schedule according the vision that we see and miss the expression that God wants it to be. How can we do that? Not seeking strategy and building according to vision only. We must be flexible. Vision has specific timing.

"I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected. Then the LORD answered me and said: 'Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.'" Habakkuk 2:1-3

The first verse speaks of receptivity and responding correctly when God wants to speak into the vision and shape it. When He shapes the vision, He first shapes the visionary. It is when the vision can be shaped that God says to write it in its simplicity. It will come to pass. Do not become impatient! Impatient? Yes. Impatient.

We can become impatient in fulfilling vision when we build by vision alone. We must know the grace of God for building. Excess energy is expended without the proper tools properly cared for.

"If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom brings success." Ecclesiastes 10:10

Seeking the strategy of God is to seek the wisdom of God. "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven". Do we build due to our own desire compelled by an inner drive? Or do we build because we are mandated and enabled by grace? Building the vision without the grace to build produces a frustrating scenario. It’s a simple lesson learned the hard way for me.

After much frustration in doing just as I described, the Lord spoke to me about two areas - timing and focus. He said, "Bret, do you know My pace for you?" After a couple days of pondering that question, I answered, "No, Lord, I do not know Your pace for me." He simply said, "Patience. If you go any faster than patience, you are moving too fast."

Next He showed me where His grace was on building the vision I carry. He said, "Build only where you see Me building."

"Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep." Psalm 127:1-2

Don’t wear yourself out in your own ability. Rest in His and know that it will surely come to pass. It is...for an appointed time!

Until we meet again, we are...
