Dear
Friend,
“Set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things),
not on the things that are on the earth.” Colossians 3:2 Amplified
Bible
During times when
the strong winds of adversity and controversy surround us it’s important
to recognize the power of a set mind. According to
Noah Webster's 1828
Dictionary of American English, to be set is “to
fix firmly; to predetermine.”
It’s a matter of
having a predetermined focus that we don’t allow to change when pressure
is present. It’s fixed. How do we set our mind? It’s a matter of
choosing our focus. We should choose our focus (“set
your minds”)
and keep it there (“keep
them set”).
When we choose to
align ourselves with God, He gives us His focus. He shows us what He
sees and wants us to see. We must look in that direction and refuse to
allow anything to turn our heads. Don’t give into the lesser things –
the ways of flesh. Do choose the ways of the Spirit. Changing focus
under pressure proves our position to be weak. We must constantly
reaffirm our gaze until it is automatic.
Doing this allows us
to have His perspective. When we see what He sees, we are no longer
limited to the impossibilities of man. We then enter the enlarged place
of God’s possibilities. Spiritual law states, “If you can see it, you
can have it”.
We choose the
“higher things”. The higher ways are what we are seeking. Choosing
to have a focus on the higher things means we are determined to walk the
way God walks. We choose the integrity of His ways rather than the ways
of man. To get His results, we need His lifestyle.
There are so many
voices in this world trying to sway us. But only one voice matters.
Strength, stability and stamina come from a fixed focus on Christ.
Listen to His voice. Follow His word. Set your mind!
Focus on His
OVERFLOW! Your cup will run over!
Until we meet again,
we are...
